Commission Junction Launches in Germany

November 28, 2004

By Bill Schnarr

The Internet playing field just got a lot smaller.

On November 8, 2004, ValueClick Inc (also known as VCLK on the NASDAQ stock market) announced that they were opening up their business to include expansion into Germany. The move has effectively shrunk the size of the Atlantic Ocean to the size of a mouse click.

Commission Junction, ValueClick’s advanced online performance marketing solutions, will soon be opening its doors to the European Union and Germany for good.

This has shown the world that the ValueClick expansion strategy is working remarkably well, to the extent that it is now the fourth branch of ValueClick business to find a home in Germany. Also included is PriceRunner.com, Mediaplex adserving, as well as a large comparison shopping chain.

This move has also opened the European markets to North American affiliate marketers and revenue sharing businesses as well as opened the North American markets to European marketers, thus paving the way for further international trade and interaction.

European online markets are something that North American online marketers and retailers alike have been slathering over, as the European industry is forecasted to grow upwards of 40 per cent in 2005 to an astounding 57 billion Euros. That figure comes from Forrester Research in their March 2004 market forecast.

Another reason investors are looking so favourably on this development is that ValueClick is quickly developing software interfaces that will allow users to access trade opportunities in their home languages and currencies, something seen as a major stumbling block for international trade in the past.

“Our German service launch marks the latest step in our ongoing efforts to increase strategic partnership opportunities and drive superior results for our advertisers and publishers,” said Jeff Pullen, executive vice president of operations for ValueClick. This, according to a press release posted on the company website.

According to the release, Commission Junctions first order of business was to successfully penetrate the German market with advertising from four of their banner clients: Citibank, Expedia, T-Mobile, and Swarovski. A great way to start an inning, by anyone’s account.

This is the news that Internet businesses have been waiting to hear. The ValueClick Brand represents all kinds of mass marketing and direct marketing systems, including web mail marketing, lead generation marketing, and search marketing, among others. Affiliate marketing through Commission Junction has made many affiliate marketers very successful at what they do.

It is through these various services, such as facilitating relationships between advertisers and publishers, and the ability to raise the game level of anyone involved in affiliate marketing, that has made them so popular.

Now they will be able to play the affiliate marketing game in Europe as well, allowing North American marketers to easily provide affiliate marketing for European companies, while at the same time allowing for the opposite to happen in Europe with Euro Affiliates.

"The talent of our experienced German team combined with the exceptional reach of the industry's largest affiliate network offers Commission Junction clients a unique international advantage." said Pullen.

Namely, the ability to truly expand into the Internet world and make it that much smaller for everyone involved.
