Legitimate Homebased Careers – Now Possible
With Your PC
By Lori Wilkerson
The concept of a legitimate homebased career that moves beyond selling
something door-to-door has been fully realized with the rise of the Internet.
Now that the world has full connectivity and anyone can be anywhere in the world
with a click of the mouse, a career is fully possible without going to a formal
office.
In fact, working from home has become not only reputable, but
something others envy – there are so many options today that
almost anyone can work from their home PC if they have the drive
and dedication to make it work for them. The options for a
career change are astounding if you take the time to do a bit of
research.
They key to a successful home-based business is to find
something you’re passionate about and tie that into your new
career path. If you’ve been an accountant for the fifteen years
and it’s making you pull your hair out just thinking of one more
day at the office, doing it from home won’t make you feel any
better!
There are plenty of other ways to put your expertise with
numbers to work for you. Try affiliate marketing (click here for
a good overview of how it works), where your understanding of
numbers will help you manage your business and track profits, or
online trading, where you’re sure to have a head start on
understanding the basics of the market. If you have a knack for
typing or writing, look into being an at-home administrative
assistant.
There are literally hundreds of reputable Internet companies that
will match up individuals who want to work at home with clients
who need temporary employees to help them with backlogged work.
Whether it is research, typing, billing or some other type of
clerical work, you can easily find steady employment doing this
overload work as a “temporary virtual staffer.”
The rates are usually set on a standard scale per hour unless it
is a rush job or something that is very research-intensive. The
only exception is if you have a background such as being a
paralegal or other professional, in which case some types of
research will pay an accordingly higher figure if it is for a
particular trial or event.
The up side? You’re working from home – you can wear what you
want and be near your family. The down side? There’s still a cap
to what you can make, and you may still need to maintain
relatively regular hours if you want to keep getting steady
work.
Turning Your Passion Into
Income
Do you have a passion for a particular hobby? You don’t have to
wait for retirement to enjoy it; turn it into the starting point
for a homebased career. Your new profession could be to become
on “expert” on camping and the wilderness. Does it sound crazy?
Think again – if you develop a website around your passion for
the great outdoors, offering forums, chat rooms and legitimate
tips and information, you’ll soon have a following of regular
visitors, and be having a blast.
“How does that make money?” you ask. By linking to reputable
suppliers of outdoor gear. If you are an affiliate for a top
brand of sleeping bags, lanterns, and hiking boots, you’ll soon
be earning commissions whether you’re wearing wing tips, boots
or fuzzy slippers each day.
Companies today are spending less of their advertising dollar on
traditional venues and more and more on partnerships with
affiliates. Their respect for partnerships with professionals in
this growing market has grown as they’ve realized that this is
where the future of Internet sales growth lies. It has long
since moved from being a small, second-income option to being a
multi-million dollar industry that has jump-started the careers
of more than a few millionaires.
The status of affiliate programs is reflected in the popularity
of the
affiliate marketing conferences held each year around the world. Some of the world’s leading
companies attend these to strengthen their affiliate ties and
learn new strategies for using this great homebased
work force.
The up side? You’re working at home, wearing what you want, and
setting your own hours. You’re doing something you love and can
get excited about and there’s no earnings cap. It makes money
when you aren’t there. The down side? Well, there is that old
saying about “You do have to work.” That’s true. You’ll have to
put some time into it, but when it’s homebased and on your
terms, isn’t it worth it?
