James
and Charles talk about Time magazine
and the nomination of independent content
publishers as person of the year and
the variety of content which is available
to the viewer. James and Charles talk
about the success of
YouTube.
James and Charles talk about how to
compete with the big guys. James’ students
are small publishers who are frequently
concerned about their ability to compete
with the major publishers. Major publishers
cannot move as quickly as small publishers.
The majors do not build their sites
with SEO in mind. James talks about
the importance of thinking “pages” not
“sites” and how online merchants are
better poised to handle the needs of
the customer. Google and the other search
engines do not rank web sites they rank
web pages. Every page has its own page
rank. Affiliate pages are created with
particular keyword phrases in mind.
James talks about the hurdle some new
site publishers have with understanding
the difference between site and page
importance. James and Charles talk about
staying motivated when you start out
and once you are going already. This
is a business of repetition. How bad
do you really want to get away from
your current position? In the long term
no one can motivate you other than you.
